Route 31
15 wild Pokémon across 4 encounter methods. 3 trainer battles.
Route 31 Guide
Route 31 is the last northern starter route before Violet, with a cave entrance, more grass, and the gate into the first badge town.
Travel the route
Route 31 is the last patch of starter-road quiet before Violet City takes over. The road is short, but the Dark Cave Violet Entrance on the side makes it feel like Johto is already hiding bigger places than you can handle at once.
What to find
Battle Bug Catcher Wade, pick the Bitter Berry, Antidote, and Poké Ball, and talk to the sleepy man in the gate for TM50 if you delivered his message. Grass brings early Bellsprout, Caterpie, Metapod, Pidgey, Spinarak, Rattata, and Hoothoot, and the cave mouth gives you a tempting detour before the first badge city.
Return with a reason
Return for Dark Cave, Bug Catcher Wade rematches, Surf or fishing cleanup, and a simple way to slip back into Violet after working the northern starter routes.
