Route 5 is Cerulean’s southern escape route, sending you past the Day Care and into the underground road while Saffron’s gate stays closed.
Route 5 looks like it should carry you straight into Saffron, but the guardhouse blocks that dream for now. Instead, the road bends toward the Underground Path North South and the long walk to Route 6.
Use the Day Care if you want to leave one Pokémon behind for passive leveling, and check the grass if you are hunting version-specific early-midgame catches. The route is short, but it matters because it quietly teaches you that Kanto’s central city is not ready to open yet.
Return when you have a drink for the Saffron guards, when Day Care pickup matters, or when the underground tunnel is the cleanest way between Cerulean and Vermilion.
