Route 9
3 wild Pokémon across 1 encounter method. 8 trainer battles.
Route 9 Guide
Route 9 is the cut-open mountain road east of Cerulean, with trainer lines, hidden Ether, and the approach to Rock Tunnel.
Travel the road
Once Cut opens the tree east of Cerulean City, Route 9 turns into a rocky march toward Route 10. The path twists just enough to make each trainer feel like a little checkpoint before the darker cave ahead.
What to find
Battle the Hikers, Bug Catchers, and Junior Trainers, pick up TM30, and search for the hidden Ether. The grass holds mountain-road encounters, so make room if you want something new before Rock Tunnel.
Return with a reason
Return if you skipped trainers, need the Cerulean-to-Rock Tunnel line, or want to finish the items before Fly makes this long eastward walk optional.
