Diglett's Cave Guide

Diglett's Cave is the narrow tunnel between Vermilion and Route 2, turning one small hole into Kanto’s first big shortcut.

Step inside

The cave entrance east of Vermilion City looks modest, but the tunnel quietly changes the whole map. It carries you under the region back to the Route 2 side of Viridian Forest.

Explore the place

The wild encounters are almost entirely Diglett, with rare Dugtrio strong enough to surprise an unprepared team. Use the shortcut after Lt. Surge, especially if you want to reach Cut-locked rewards around Route 2 and the aide checkpoints near the early roads.

Come back with a reason

Return whenever the Vermilion-to-Pewter shortcut saves time. Diglett’s Cave is not long, but it makes Kanto feel connected in a way the first badge road did not.
