Vermilion City Guide

Vermilion City is Kanto’s orange harbor, where the S.S. Anne, the Fan Club, Diglett’s Cave, and Lt. Surge’s cut-locked Gym all meet.

Arrive and look around

Vermilion smells like salt air and ship smoke. The dock leads to SS Anne 1F, the Pokemon Fan Club sits in town, Diglett's Cave opens to the east, and the Gym waits behind a small tree like a dare.

What to do here

Use Bill’s S.S. Ticket to board the ship, explore its cabins, battle your rival, and help the captain for HM01. Visit the Fan Club chairman for the Bike Voucher, pick up the Old Rod from the fishing guru, and search the town for a hidden Max Ether. Once you can Cut, enter Lt. Surge’s Gym, solve the switch puzzle, and win the Thunder Badge with TM24.

Come back with a reason

Return when the Bike Voucher needs to become a Bicycle at the Bike Shop, when Diglett’s Cave gives you a safer road back toward Route 2, or when the harbor feels like the right place to reset before the eastern half of Kanto.
