Route 1 Guide
Route 1 is the short green road between Pallet and Viridian, with ledges, early Pidgey and Rattata, and the first free sample from the Mart clerk.
Travel the road
Walk north from Pallet Town and Route 1 immediately teaches Kanto’s rhythm: grass on one side, ledges for the return trip, and a straight push toward Viridian City. Before you have Poké Balls, it is a cautious walk. After Oak’s errand, it becomes your first catching ground.
What to find
Talk to the Mart clerk on the road for a free Potion. The grass is simple but important, with early Pidgey and Rattata to round out a new party. Use the ledges on the way back south when you are carrying Oak’s Parcel or returning home to heal.
Return with a reason
Return any time you want easy early training, a quick route between home and Viridian, or a quiet place to watch the adventure shrink back to its first few tiles.
