Route 22 Guide

Route 22 is the western Viridian road, remembered for rival pressure and for feeding the Indigo side of Kanto.

Travel the route

Route 22 is the west road out of Viridian City, and even when it is quiet it points at something serious. The Victory Road gate sits beyond it, so the little route always feels like the beginning of an approach.

What to find

There are no trainers here in the postgame, so explore the grass and water: Rattata, Spearow, Doduo, Ponyta, Fearow, Poliwag, and Poliwhirl can all make the route more than a blank connector. The ledges keep the return toward Viridian quick.

Return with a reason

Return when you want the western Indigo approach, fishing near Viridian, or a short route that carries more League atmosphere than its size suggests.

Ways To Move Around

Some parts of this map need a move, or only work one way.

Surf opens water paths here

Water tiles can become paths once you can Surf.

Bring a Surf user after earning Fog Badge if you want every shoreline path.

One-way ledges shape the route

These ledges let you jump down but not climb back up from the same spot.

Look before you hop if you are collecting items or avoiding trainers.
