Oak's Lab Guide

Oak's Lab is Kanto’s first room of choice, where starters, the rival battle, Oak’s Parcel, the Pokédex, and progress checks all begin.

Step inside

The lab at the south edge of Pallet Town looks orderly, but the moment Oak brings you inside it becomes the room that launches the whole region. The three Poké Balls on the table are not decoration; they are the first real decision.

What matters here

Choose Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle in Red and Blue, then battle your rival before leaving. Bring Oak's Parcel back from Viridian to receive the Pokédex and 5 Poké Balls. Oak and his aides continue to react to your Pokédex progress later, so the lab stays more alive than a simple starting room.

Come back with a reason

Return after the parcel, after major catching milestones, and whenever Pallet feels like the right place to reset. Oak’s Lab is small, but it gives the adventure its language: choose, battle, record, return.
