Viridian City Guide
Viridian City is Kanto’s first real stop: a Mart errand for Oak, a blocked Gym, a school, hidden prizes, and roads that keep pulling you back.
Arrive and look around
Viridian sits between the tiny calm of Pallet Town and the wild north. The Pokémon Center and Mart make it feel like your first proper town, but the closed Gym and the western path to Route 22 hint that Viridian is saving its biggest moment for later.
What to do here
Enter the Mart as soon as you arrive from Route 1 and carry Oak's Parcel back home. After Oak gives you the Pokédex and Poké Balls, Viridian becomes your first shopping stop. Talk through the town for early catching advice, visit the school for battle basics, collect the hidden Potion by the tree, and remember the old man in the road before he has had his coffee.
Come back with a reason
Return after the Poké Flute opens travel, after Cut lets you clean up nearby rewards, and finally when the Gym door opens. Viridian’s last badge battle turns the first town you trusted into the road’s final test before Route 23 and the League.
