Route 39
14 wild Pokémon across 3 encounter methods. 6 trainer battles.
Route 39 Guide
Route 39 is the farm route before Olivine, mixing trainers, the Moomoo Farm side stops, and the last land approach to the western port city.
Travel the route
Route 39 smells like farm grass before it smells like the sea. Olivine City is just south, but Moomoo Farm, the barn, the farmhouse, and the trainer line make the approach worth slowing down.
What to find
Battle Sailor Eugene, Pokéfan Derek, Pokéfan Ruth, and Psychic Norman, pick the Mint Berry, and search for the hidden Nugget. Miltank and Tauros appear in the grass, and the farm gives the route its own little story instead of letting it become only the road before Olivine.
Return with a reason
Return for farm errands, phone rematches, the hidden Nugget if you missed it, and the quiet west-coast line between Ecruteak and Olivine.

Remember For Later
Before You Try This
Some gifts, paths, and events need the right item, time, badge, or story step first.
A rematch can unlock later
A later version of this battle can open up after more story progress.
Check back later after more story events, and share your number if asked.
Phone number choice matters
Later calls or follow-up events only happen if you shared your number.
Say yes when asked if you want rematches or other follow-ups.
After beating Elite Four
This place changes after that story moment.
Move the story forward, then come back here.
Visit Lake Of Rage first
Lake Of Rage only becomes a Fly stop after you have been there once.
Reach Lake Of Rage first so Fly can treat it as a destination.
Ways To Move Around
Some parts of this map need a move, or only work one way.
One-way ledges shape the route
These ledges let you jump down but not climb back up from the same spot.
Look before you hop if you are collecting items or avoiding trainers.
Roaming And Swarm Hunting
Check nearby routes, caller notes, land and water caveats, and what can move before you chase.
Possible roamers
Raikou, Entei, Suicune
Raikou, Entei, Suicune can move through this route once they are released.
Check your Pokégear map, then hunt on land when one is nearby.
Route changes
They move as you travel
A roaming beast can move to a nearby route when you change areas, and it can also jump somewhere else.
If it is not here anymore, step between nearby routes and check again.
Nearby jumps
Route 38
From here, a beast usually moves toward Route 38.
Use nearby routes to keep chasing without flying away.
Land only
No Surf encounters
The beasts stay out of Surf encounters, so they do not pop up while you are surfing.
Hunt in grass or on land instead of riding across water.
Battle Variants
